Dear Colleagues:

FlyBase sadly reports the passing of Edward B. Lewis on July 21.
He truly was one of the giants of our field.  

Many of us in the Drosophila community had the good fortune to
know Ed as a scientist, colleague, mentor and friend.  His wisdom,
generosity, charm and ebullience touched us in ways too numerous 
to list.  We shall miss him deeply.

Several of us also have had the good fortune to be touched by Ed's 
family.  Our fondest thoughts and sympathies are with them.  For anyone 
interested in a remembrance in Ed's honor, his family has suggested
